Expecting Mother Services
Prenatal midwifery care
These individualized visits last 45-60 minutes. We listen to the baby’s heartbeat, check your blood pressure and weight, measure your belly (your baby’s growth), go over dietary/exercise information and goal setting, and discuss lab work and ultrasounds (if appropriate and desired by you).
Birth center birth
After receiving your prenatal care at the Birth Center, you’ll feel like you’re going to your home away from home for the birth of your new baby. You and your family can make yourselves comfortable in our large, four-room suite. We’ll monitor your baby’s heart rate and your vitals in a compassionate and non-invasive way. The Birth Center has safety equipment, medications, IV therapy, and oxygen (for the rare instance that they are needed).
Home birth
Home birth is a wonderful option for many families. Prenatal care takes place at the Birth Center. But on the day you go into labor, we’ll arrive at your home with our equipment and excitement to be part of your family’s birth experience.
Waterbirth
There are many benefits of using water in labor for mother and baby. At our Birth Center we have large, deep birth tubs. It’s easy to obtain buoyancy, move freely, and even have your partner in the tub for support. We have waterproof equipment so that we may monitor baby’s heart rate while you labor comfortably in the tub.
Postpartum care
We’ll care for you and your baby for six weeks following birth. During the first week, all visits take place in the comfort of your home. After your baby’s second week of life, you can come to the Birth Center for care. All visits are for mom and baby, and will include breastfeeding assistance and support, checking baby’s basic vitals and weight, and emotional support for you. At the six-week visit, we offer a well-women exam with Pap smear and birth control/family planning options.
Newborn care
We love babies! And since each little bundle of joy is different, we know that even the most seasoned mother may have questions about her baby’s growth, sleep patterns, nursing, and general well being. To help support your new family, we offer additional postpartum visits as needed, a mothers’ support gathering Monday mornings, and visits with our Nurse Practitioner during and after your baby’s first six weeks of life.
